At the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, officers have been working alongside a social worker for the past seven years. Even though the program has been around for a while, there are many community members who don’t know this partnership exists.

She was hovering around her inbox, waiting for an e-mail to arrive saying she had been selected for a spot on the council.
