Program Highlight: What is Attendant Care?

April 29, 2024

In mental and behavioral health services, attendant care programs play an important role in helping people of all ages achieve their treatment goals and live independently. We sat down with Amber Schmitt and Nolan Moore, who helped to shed some light on the impact of the attendant care programs at Wyandot Center & PACES.

Amber Schmitt, Supervisor of Adult Attendant Care Services at Wyandot Center, brings more than16 years of experience to her role. Her journey began in 2008 when she found herself drawn to the diverse services offered by Wyandot Center.

Schmitt’s team supports clients in achieving the goals outlined in their treatment plans. From assisting with household chores to transportation to medical appointments, the Attendant Care team works to enhance clients' day-to-day lives. Notably, the team handles the daily delivery and observation of psychiatric medications. Schmitt’s leadership style centers on leading by example. She never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and engage in tasks alongside her team, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.

Nolan Moore, Care Coordinator for the Youth Psychosocial Program at PACES, embodies a passion for empowering youth on their journey toward mental wellness. Inspired by Frederick Douglas' words, "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men," Moore is dedicated to laying a foundation of resilience and support for the youth under his care.

Since joining PACES full-time in 2022, Moore has supported PACES' young clients and their families. From working with local school districts to process referrals and offering programmatic assistance, his work helps to reinforce school expectations. In contrast to adult-focused programs, Moore’s work revolves around youth and close collaboration with guardians and schools. By bridging the gap between clinical support and everyday life, Moore and his team create a supportive community where young clients can thrive.

Attendant care programs serve as lifelines for those with mental health challenges and attendant care providers offer support and guidance at every step. Thank you to all of our hard-working attendant care staff!
